ISLAMABAD (Azaad English): Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several parts of Pakistan experienced rainy weather of varying intensities causing a noticeable drop in temperatures. The rain, along with gusty winds, added to the chill in the air both during the day and at night.
Current weather forecasts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) indicate that Islamabad and Rawalpindi together with most other national regions will experience dry and cold conditions through the next two days.
PMD indicates that northern Pakistan suffers from a shallow westerly wave while continental air spreads across other regions.
The upcoming weather will create dry climate conditions across most Pakistani territories as the hill districts will get extreme coldtemperatures. Recent PMD forecasts suggest Gilgit-Baltistan together with Kashmir alongside their adjacent hills will experience sporadic rain along with blowing winds.


The anticipated minimum temperatures for Islamabad will vary between 04°C to 06°C on Wednesday followed by 05°C to 07°C on Thursday. The temperature in Rawalpindi will stay cold during the nighttime as forecasted weather predicts minimum readings will fall between 06°C and 08°C on Wednesday and between 07°C and 09°C on Thursday.
A combination of heavy rainfall and snowfall affected different regions of Pakistan during the previous 24 hours mainly targeting Upper Punjab alongside Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. The areas of Garhi Dupatta and Muzaffarabad in Kashmir experienced heavy rain which brought 55mm rainfall to Muzaffarabad city. The rain affected both Rawalakot and Kotli as well as numerous areas within Punjab.
Heavy precipitation of 42mm and 40mm falling in Malam Jabba and Kakul district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The areas of Malam Jabba coupled with Murree and Kalam received substantial snow accumulations that were measured by inches. During the snowfall period in Malam Jabba the highest accumulation reached 13 inches.
The northern Pakistani region of Leh proved to be the coldest area because temperatures sank to 07°C below freezing. The cold weather intensified in Quetta alongside Ziarat and Kalam alongside Murree and Malam Jabba as all of these regions experienced freezing temperatures.
The northern Pakistani district of Leh recorded the lowest temperature at 07°C under freezing while the upcoming days will maintain cold temperatures especially during nighttime across both cities and their surrounding areas.
People need to prepare themselves by wearing suitable winter clothes while avoiding exposure to low temperatures.
