WEBDESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather advisory, with rain predicted in various regions of the country starting May 27 and continuing through May 30.

According to the forecast, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and central Punjab will experience thunderstorms and rain over the coming days. This change in weather is expected to bring relief from the intense heat that has gripped these areas over the past week.
In addition to the twin cities, areas such as Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Khushab, Jhelum, Hafizabad, and Gujranwala are also likely to see rain and thunder. The Met Office has clearly stated that rain is predicted in these regions especially during the evenings and at night, when storm clouds are expected to form rapidly.
For residents of these areas, the arrival of rain may come as a welcome break, especially for those affected by the ongoing heatwave. However, officials are urging the public to remain cautious. With heavy rain predicted, there is also a risk of urban flooding in lowlying areas.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the monsoon season for 2025 will begin on June 30 and continue until about mid-September. Several parts of the country will experience above-normal amounts of rain this year.
Both the emergency teams and city offices have been informed in advance to ensure they are ready. Residents should stay inside during a thunderstorm, try not to travel too far and make sure anything loose on their roofs and balconies is secure.
This week’s forecast also holds significance for farmers in Punjab, as the rain could impact harvesting and other agricultural activities. The Meteorological Department has recommended that farmers take necessary precautions to protect their crops and equipment.
Weather experts suggest that this rain system is moving in from the west and is likely to affect central parts of the country the most. The possibility of rain predicted in northern and north eastern areas remains high throughout the week.
Earlier a powerful rain and hailstorm hit Islamabad, Rawalpindi and areas nearby on Saturday evening, leaving many places damaged and without electricity. Because of the storm, strong winds and hail which damaged trees, rooftops, and power lines across the region.
On Saturday, a strong dust storm in Lahore also brought dense rainfall, strong winds and swiftly changed the weather with dark clouds. Because of the sudden storm, daily life came to a stop and people faced big challenges.
Due to these storms, several flights experienced turbulence. Passengers reported bumpy conditions during takeoff and landing.
A Lahore-bound flight, FL-842 from Karachi, encountered severe turbulence as intense dust and rainstorms swept over the city of Lahore, creating a frightening experience for passengers.
