LAHORE: After days of scorching heat, the weather in Lahore has taken a welcome turn. A fresh spell of rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, has started in the city and across several parts of Punjab. The downpour has cooled down the temperature and brought relief to the public.
The weather of the city had remained hot and dry recently, with temperatures soaring up to 40°C. The intense heat and dry winds made life difficult for many people. However, as a westerly wind system moved into the region, clouds gathered over Lahore and other cities, leading to much-awaited showers.
Intermittent rain has been falling in different parts of the city since early Friday morning. Thunderstorms, lightning, and even hail were also reported in some areas, making the weather not just cooler but also pleasant.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Lahore’s weather is expected to stay mild for the day. The maximum temperature is likely to reach 29°C, while the minimum will be around 26°C. This change in weather has eased the ongoing heatwave in the region.
Other cities that saw rainfall include Faisalabad, Jhelum, Sargodha, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, and Toba Tek Singh. Northern areas such as Swat, Kalam, and Gilgit-Baltistan also experienced rain and strong winds due to the same weather system.
The Meteorological Office has confirmed that this rain producing system will exit Pakistan by tonight. After that, Lahore weather is expected to remain pleasant and dry, especially over the weekend.
To manage water accumulation from the rain, WASA officials in Lahore have been directed to stay alert and ensure proper drainage in all areas.
Citizens and tourists are advised to remain cautious during rainfall, especially in hilly and low-lying regions where roads can become slippery.
For now, Lahore weather has improved greatly, offering a refreshing break from the recent heatwave. With clouds still hanging in the sky and cool winds blowing, the city is enjoying a well-deserved pause from the summer heat.
