Rain emergency in Islamabad has been enforced after torrential rain in several areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, according to the Water and Sanitation Agency.
More than 80 millimetres of rain has been recorded across the twin cities.
The WASA spokesperson reported 90 millimetres at Saidpur, 80 at Shamsabad and 55 at Katarian. Golra recorded 30 millimetres, Bokra 32, and the PMD station 55 millimetres.
Rain emergency in Islamabad: WASA on high alert, Nala Lai under watch
WASA said it is on high alert in line with the Met Office forecast. A rain emergency has been imposed.
Staff and heavy machinery are deployed in low lying areas. Continuous monitoring is under way across the city drains and at Nala Lai.
At Nala Lai, the water level stands at 10 feet and 6 feet at Gawalmandi bridge. Field teams are tracking levels and clearing chokepoints to keep flows moving.
The agency said operations are focused on quick dewatering in vulnerable neighbourhoods and on keeping traffic routes open.
Control rooms are coordinating with field staff for rapid response as more rain passes through the catchments.
Officials noted that totals may change as more gauges report. The emphasis remains on round the clock monitoring until levels recede.
Today’s enforcement reflects the need for fast action when intense showers hit the basin.
With teams and machinery already in place, the aim is to reduce urban flooding and protect property in both cities.
Updates will follow from WASA and the district administrations as conditions evolve.
The rain emergency in Islamabad is active. Field units are on duty, Nala Lai is under watch, and drainage lines are being cleared to manage the runoff.
