WEBDESK: Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on the country’s Election Commission, accusing it of acting as a tool of Prime Minister Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a strongly worded post on social media platform X, Gandhi said the Election Commission had been “caught red-handed stealing votes” in Bihar. He alleged that the ongoing revision of voter lists in the state, under the name of Special Intensive Revision (SIR), was a cover for electoral fraud.

He questioned the Commission’s neutrality, asking, “Is this still an Election Commission or has it fully become BJP’s vote theft wing?”

This is not the first time Gandhi has raised such concerns. During the Maharashtra Assembly elections, he objected to the sudden addition of 10 million new voters to the rolls. He claimed this was part of a coordinated effort between the BJP and the Election Commission to influence the outcome.

The Congress leader warned that if the Election Commission fails to remain impartial, it could face legal consequences. He said the Commission must act as a guardian of the Constitution, not as an agent of any political party.

Gandhi’s statements reflect growing concerns in India over the erosion of democratic institutions under BJP rule.
