Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing severe political pressure at home after Indian Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi upped the ante by demanding that Modi must publicly reveal Indian fighter jet losses in the war against Pakistan.

The recent pressure on Narendra Modi has increased manifold after US President Donald Trump confirmed that Pakistan shot down multiple Indian fighter jets during the May 2025 conflict, including Rafale aircraft.

Donald Trump’s confirmation of Indian jet losses

Speaking at a dinner with Republican senators, Trump recalled the rising tensions between India and Pakistan. He said, “You had India, Pakistan… planes were being shot out of the air. I think five jets were shot down.” He described the situation as dangerous and said both countries were “hitting each other.”

Trump’s words confirm what Pakistan had already claimed that it successfully defended the nation while downing several Indian aircraft. Among the downed jets were India’s crown jewels, French-made Dassault Rafales.

Trump went on to say that the situation was getting “bigger and bigger,” but the US stepped in and helped stop it. Trump said, “We said, you guys want to make a trade deal? We’re not making a trade deal if you’re going to be throwing around weapons.”

Rahul Gandhi had already been strongly criticising the Modi government for hiding serious Indian military losses after Pakistan retaliated against Indian aggression in May.

President Donald Trump’s recent admission has once again globally proved that Pakistan presented the truth in May, while the Indian government was busy reveling in made-up fantasies by its media.

Interestingly, Indian defence analyst Pravin Sawhney has also expressed support for Gandhi’s demand, saying, “The nation has the right to know the preparedness of our armed forces. Between India & Pakistan, the air war will determine the outcome of the campaign. Narrative building will not help, since on the battlefield – where with space capabilities – it is impossible to hide gains & loses.”
