Punjab WASAs directed to complete monsoon preparations by May 31

Punjab Water and Sanitation Authority (PWSA) has ordered all its five agencies to finalise their operational preparations for the upcoming monsoon season by May 31.

Director General (DG) PWSA Tayyab Farid on Saturday instructed that all five Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA) to focus on urgent cleaning of sewer lines, ensure working conditions of heavy machineries, and setup of monsoon camps.

Furthermore, the high-level meeting also decided that low-lying areas should be identified earlier efficiently so all arrangements could be in place before the pre-monsoon season.

The DG PWSA also revied that revenue recovery of all WASAs comprehensively, stating, “Revenue recovery is critical to maintaining water and sewerage services.”

Meanwhile, WASA Rawalpindi Managing Director Muhammad Saleem Ashraf , in his briefing, stated that the WASA Pindi was working hard on cleaning the sewer lines before monsoon.

He also assured that the agency had heavy machinery in working condition such as sucker and jetting machines, and dewatering pumps to deal with the flood situation.

Ashraf also stated that funds request had been made to Punjab government for cleaning the Leh Nullah and 15 other major 15 drains of the city.

A control room was being established at the WASA head-office from where city-wide monitoring as well as the process of registering citizens’ complaints would be carried out, he said.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s different districts, including Peshawar, has witnessed intense rainfall along with hailstorms in isolated areas on Friday. On April 16, a sudden and intense hailstorm battered Islamabad as many cars got severely damaged, trees became uprooted and windowpanes of many houses got broken. Following the hailstorm in Islamabad, heavy hailstorm has again broken windows of many vehicles in KP district.

According to media reports, heavy rain and hail are being experienced in some areas of Khyber district along with strong winds. Due to heavy hail in Bara, Jamrud and Landi Kotal areas of Khyber district, the windows of vehicles have been broken. Since many homes have dedicated solar systems installed, multiple people reported their solar panels damaged due to hailstorm in KP areas.
