LAHORE: In response to the rising temperatures and expected heatwave, the Punjab government has decided to introduce a relaxed summer dress code for school students. Starting May 1, students across the province will be allowed to attend school in casual clothes instead of the usual school uniforms.
The Punjab School Education Department (SED) issued new guidelines that the summer dress code will stay in effect until September 15, covering both the heatwave period and the reopening of schools after summer holidays.
Under the new summer dress code, students can wear light, cotton clothing to help beat the heat. However, the department has set clear rules: no makeup, no jewelry, no flashy clothes, and no silk fabric will be allowed. These measures are meant to keep students comfortable, modest, and focused on their studies.
Teachers will also follow a dress code. Female teachers must wear shalwar kameez with a dupatta and are not allowed to wear jeans or t-shirts. On the other hand, male teachers are permitted to wear jeans and t-shirts during this period.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also issued an advisory to all relevant departments, urging them to stay alert and prepared for emergency situations.
