LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched special Women Police Squads to ensure the safety of female shoppers and children in busy markets across the province ahead of Eid.
On the orders of Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz, these squads have started patrolling major commercial areas on foot, bicycles, and motorbikes. Their main goal is to prevent harassment, theft, and other crimes in crowded shopping spots.
The women police officers are currently patrolling markets in cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Okara. They will monitor suspicious activity, help prevent robberies, and assist shoppers if needed.
Additionally, special units of the Dolphin Police Force have been deployed in Lahore, particularly in 65 busy commercial areas such as Anarkali, Liberty Market, and DHA Raya Club. These teams, including a Quick Response Cycle Squad, will patrol after Iftar until the markets close.
Liberty Market has become a major hub for shoppers, with a large number of people rushing to buy clothes, accessories, and footwear. Women, in particular, are busy selecting outfits suited to the season, with ready-made garments featuring trendy designs capturing their attention. Matching jewelry, bangles, and shoes are also in high demand as shoppers aim for a complete festive look.
Over 4,000 police personnel are part of this special operation in Lahore alone. The first fully mobilized Women Police Squad has started patrolling in Okara as well.
CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized that ensuring the safety of women and children is a top priority for both the government and society. She assured that all necessary measures will be taken to maintain security in public spaces.
