LAHORE: The Punjab government has abolished all fees for the issuance of computerised birth and death certificates. This decision comes under the newly introduced Punjab Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025 and is aimed at making these essential documents more accessible to citizens.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, said that identity is a right that belongs to every individual. She ssid that the government wants to make sure citizens can access computerised birth and death certificates in a straightforward and affordable way.
Under the new rules, citizens can now register births and deaths at their local Union Councils and Municipal Committees free of charge even up to seven years after the event.
You do not need a court order any longer if you file the registration after it is due. With this development, the government can improve and make its services easy for people to access.
Officials have shared that all computerised birth and death certificates will be issued digitally and without any fees. This means people won’t need to pay for these certificates or go through complex paperwork, making the process easier for everyone especially those in rural or low-income areas.
Maryam Nawaz added that digital records will help protect the rights of individuals and improve planning for services like health and education. “Timely registration of births and deaths is not just a formality it’s a way to ensure every citizen is counted and supported,” she said.
Making computerised birth and death certificates both free and accessible will help the government become more transparent and support the needs of the public.
For anyone who needs a computerised birth or death certificate, all they need to do now is visit their nearest Union Council or Municipal Committee office. The service is now available at no cost and without legal hurdles, making life easier for millions across the province.
