WEBDESK: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the Apni Zameen Apna Ghar scheme, a major housing initiative aimed at helping homeless citizens across the province. The program will provide free residential plots of three marlas to those in need, with additional support for house construction through easy loans.
The Apni Zameen Apna Ghar scheme kicked off with the launch of a dedicated online portal — azag.punjab.gov.pk — where eligible individuals can apply for plots. In the first phase, around 2,000 plots will be handed out in 23 housing schemes across 19 districts, including areas like Jhelum, Pattoki, Lodhran, and Renala Khurd.
The chief minister said: “Under ‘Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar’ Programme, homeless people will be given free three-marla plots. Those who get plots in the draw under will also get loans to construct their houses”.
She said that in the phase 1 of the programme, free plots would be given in Jhelum, Pattoki, Mamun Kanjan, Lodhran and Renala Khurd.
The Apni Zameen Apna Ghar program is designed to ensure that deserving families get a safe place to live. The government is also offering loans to help beneficiaries build their homes, with a three-month grace period to ease the financial burden.
CM Maryam Nawaz shared that nearly 34,000 houses are already under construction, while 2,000 have been completed. She also noted that 300 new houses are being built daily under the broader Apni Chhat Apna Ghar initiative, which offers interest-free loans to landowners with plots between one and ten marlas.
The housing minister, Bilal Yasin, revealed that Rs36 billion has been allocated for loans to build houses for over 33,000 people under the Apni Zameen Apna Ghar program.
“Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar programme is very close to my heart. Providing shelter to homeless people is the vision of Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, who gets very much pleased when listening about completion of houses for the homeless people,” said Maryam Nawaz.
