Just one day before the Senate elections, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s backup candidate Waqas Orakzai announced his withdrawal from the race in the presence of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Speaking at the press conference, Waqas Orakzai said, “When it comes to the party founder, there is no question of my own interests. But that does not mean I am stepping back due to any pressure.”
Chief Minister Gandapur praised Orakzai’s loyalty, saying, “We are proud of our workers. Waqas has always prioritised the party and the founder’s vision over personal gain. He agreed to withdraw his nomination at our request for the greater good of PTI.”
Ali Amin added, “The message for the entire party is clear: the founder’s directive and the party’s interest come first, everything else is secondary.”
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to challenge the oath-taking of members on reserved seats at the Governor House.
The political committee of PTI on Friday unanimously approved unopposed senate election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
After consultation with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa parliamentary party, a unanimous decision was made to prefer unopposed elections in order to put an end to the shameful practice of vote buying and selling.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa parliamentary party was given the authority to decide the electoral procedure by the PTI founder, and the party’s top leadership expressed full confidence to their decision.
Irshad Hussain also withdraws from senate race
Irshad Hussain, a technocrat nominee, has also withdrawn his candidacy ahead of the Senate elections.
