In an interesting development, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political committee has decided to meet with Imran Khan over the party’s social media accounts’ alleged involvement in irresponsible anti-state narrative.
Senior journalist Ansar Abbasi reported that the powerful political committee of PTI recently met in KP House, Islamabad, to discuss the often aggressive and unauthorised content posted from party’s official social media accounts.
It was a unanimous opinion among the senior PTI leaders that Imran Khan must be persuaded to implement some oversight mechanisms to prevent the anti-state narrative.
Ansar Abbasi reported that the leaders will try to convince founder PTI Imran Khan for giving a nod to constitute a committee of key PTI leaders who would vet all the social media content before posting.
It was also reported that the main reason for suggesting this to Imran Khan is to disassociate the official narrative of PTI from influence of overseas individuals allegedly engaged in anti-military and anti-Pakistan narrative.
Historically, Imran Khan has defended the social media accounts even after they drew condemnations; however, this is the first time PTI’s political committee has formally taken this issue seriously.
Ansar Abbasi alleged that following leaders attended the high-level intra party meeting: arrister Gohar Ali Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, Salman Akram Raja, Shibli Faraz, Junaid Akbar, Raoof Hasan, Amir Dogar, Hafiz Farhat, Asad Qaiser. According to details, nearly all party leaders agreed that a new vetting mechanism is necessary to control PTI’s social media narrative.
It merits a mention that government leaders have strongly criticised PTI, with many alleging that some of the party’s verified accounts shared the same propaganda that aligned with terrorists’ narrative in the Jaffar Express hostage crisis.
Ansar Abbasi disclosed that even the most senior party leadership has no control whatsoever over the party’s social media accounts, which are allegedly operated from overseas.
