A recent analysis by the BBC has ranked the Pakistan Super League (PSL) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in several important cricketing metrics.

According to the report, PSL matches deliver higher scoring consistency, more close finishes, and stronger fast-bowling performances compared to its Indian counterpart.
In terms of average first-innings total, the PSL leads with 180 runs per innings, narrowly surpassing the IPL’s 179.
Close Matches, Big Hits, and Pace Dominance
When it comes to nail-biting encounters, 27.5% of PSL games go down to the final over – the second-highest rate among all major T20 leagues. The PSL also tops the charts for average fours per game at 30, and ranks second for sixes, with an impressive average of 14 per match.
Fast bowling remains Pakistan’s hallmark, and the BBC data confirms it: PSL pacers have taken the second-most wickets among global leagues, reinforcing the reputation of Pakistani speedsters as match-winners.
The BBC also assessed player quality by measuring the average number of international caps in each team’s starting XI. The PSL ranks second worldwide with an average of 351 caps per game, ahead of the IPL’s 335, showcasing the league’s high concentration of seasoned international talent.
Cricket analysts say these figures reflect the PSL’s growing stature, competitive balance, and global appeal – making it a league that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with, and in some areas surpass, the IPL.
