The summary for the proposal of early summer vacations in Punjab 2025 has been sent to Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz. The proposal sent by the Punjab School Education Department suggests that summer holidays in Punjab schools should be given early this year due to the expected heatwave.

If accepted by CM Maryam Nawaz, the summer holidays in all schools across Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Faisalabad, will start from June 1st, 2025. There is certainty that the proposal will be accepted by the provincial government because in the past, we have seen that the government has announced earlier vacations due to extreme weather conditions.

The proposal has been sent because the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted that Pakistan will face an extreme heatwave this year. To avoid any heat-related health issues, the Education Department has proposed early summer holidays for school-going students.

However, the final dates for the school holidays will be known after the notification is issued.

How extreme will the heatwave be this year in Punjab?

In April, PDMA warned of a potential temperature spike of 4 to 7 degrees Celsius and sent out directives to district administrations and educational institutions throughout the province regarding the likelihood of a heatwave.

“Pakistan, particularly southern Punjab and Sindh, is expected to experience an early heatwave in April 2025. The heatwave conditions are likely to continue in Punjab and Sindh during May and June 2025, with the heat index anticipated to rise significantly, reaching between 41 to 45 degrees Celsius,” read the heat advisory on the official website of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
