WEBDESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a strong warning about a severe heatwave during Eid holidays that is expected to impact many parts of the country.
According to the Met Office, a high-pressure system is expected to develop over Pakistan on June 07, which will grip most regions from June 08 onwards, significantly increasing day temperatures.
Temperatures in northern regions are expected to remain 7°C above normal until June 12. Southern areas may experience temperatures 4 to 6°C higher than average.
Major cities including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Multan, and Peshawar are likely to experience intense heat. The hot weather is expected to last throughout the Eid-ul-Adha holiday period.
Health experts have advised the public to stay indoors during peak sunlight hours, especially between 11 AM and 4 PM. They recommend drinking plenty of water, avoiding sugary or caffeinated drinks, and wearing light-colored, loose clothing. Covering your head with a hat or cloth when outside can also help prevent heatstroke.
Dust storms and gusty winds are also anticipated over the plains due to excessive surface heating.
All concerned departments have been advised to stay alert and take necessary actions to mitigate risks during this severe weather spell.
The heatwave during Eid holidays also raises concerns about the health and safety of people attending large religious gatherings, including Eid prayers and sacrificial animal handling. Authorities are advising mosques and community centers to provide shaded areas and access to drinking water during events.
Power shortages and load shedding could further increase discomfort during the hot days ahead. The government has been asked to ensure stable electricity and water supply, particularly in rural and low-income areas.

Met Office predicted that moist currents are penetrating in northeastern parts of the country, and a westerly wave is also likely to approach upper parts on 03rd June.
