WEBDESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of more heavy monsoon rains starting today, 28 July 2025. The rain is expected to hit many parts of the country, with chances of flash floods and urban flooding.
The PMD says that weak monsoon currents are already entering upper and central Pakistan. These are expected to get stronger. A new westerly wave will also arrive on 29 July, making the rains heavier and longer.
An official advisory warns that intense rain may cause flash floods in streams and nullahs. Cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Sialkot are at high risk of urban flooding between 28 and 31 July.
Landslides are also likely in hilly areas such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, and Kashmir. Roads in these areas may be blocked due to mudslides.
Tourists and travellers have been advised to stay away from dangerous areas. The PMD and NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) are monitoring the situation. Authorities have been told to stay alert and take safety steps.
In Sindh partly cloudy skies with hot and humid conditions are expected in much of Sindh. There is a chance of rain, wind and thunderstorms in some areas such as Umerkot, Tharparkar, Thatta, Badin, Karachi, Khairpur, Sanghar, Mithi and Mirpur Khas.
So far, over 270 people have died in rain-related accidents since 26 June. The monsoon season continues to affect many lives.
