QUETTA (Azaad English): Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif travelled to Quetta on Thursday March 13, 2025 to show support to Balochistan people after militants attacked Jaffar Express train.
PM plans to lead a high-level assessment of security conditions as well as discuss plans to stop future occurrences. He is also expected to meet with the families of the victims and express condolences for their loss.
On March 11 armed militants launched an attack on Jaffar Express railway while it operated through the Gudalar and Pero Kunnri areas. Hostagers were taken by terrorists enabling an intense hostage situation to develop. The security forces of Pakistan conducted an immediate operation which resulted in both rescuing all hostages and killing 33 terrorists during the action.
Prior to the rescue operation the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) documented that 21 civilians died. Frontier Corps personnel lost four of their team members during the course of the operation. The officials noted that terrorists employed passengers as shields during the rescue making the operation more difficult to achieve.
PM Shehbaz praised the bravery of security forces and assured the public that the government is committed to fighting terrorism. “Such cowardly attacks cannot shake Pakistan’s resolve for peace,” he said. He also offered prayers for the martyrs and wished a quick recovery for the injured.
