PM Shehbaz praises Trump’s role in ‘landmark’ US-Pakistan trade pact

Webdesk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that a historic trade agreement with the United States has been successfully finalised, expressing deep gratitude to President Donald Trump.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that President Trump played a leading role in the agreement.

He added that this historic deal will further strengthen the growing cooperation between the two nations and broaden the scope of their long-term partnership in the days ahead.

Statement by Deputy PM, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar also welcomed the agreement, saying, “Alhamdulillah, a historic deal has been reached between Pakistan and the US.”

He made this statement in response to Trump’s post on his social platform.

Dar stated that the agreement would enhance economic cooperation between the two countries, foster energy sector collaboration, and open up new investment opportunities.

“Pakistan is on the path to strengthening its economic position,” he added.

While details of the agreement are expected to be released in the coming days, government sources say the partnership will play a key role in expanding opportunities in energy, infrastructure, and exports.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb’s comments

Pakistan’s Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb said the agreement will benefit both countries.

He emphasised the importance of aligning trade and investment, adding that the deal reflects a broader economic, bilateral, and strategic partnership.

Trump announces US-Pakistan trade deal

US President Donald Trump officially announced the trade deal with Pakistan.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “We have just completed a trade deal with Pakistan under which both sides will work together to develop their large oil reserves.”

He added, “We are now selecting an oil company to lead this partnership. Who knows, maybe one day they’ll be selling oil to India.”

Trump also mentioned, “We’ve had a busy day at the White House working on trade agreements. I’ve spoken to leaders of several countries, all of them want to make America happy.”

It’s worth noting that President Trump has recently threatened to impose additional tariffs on several countries starting Friday.

In response, top Pakistani officials have made multiple visits to the US.

Most recently, the Deputy Prime Minister visited from July 21 to July 28, while Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is currently in the United States.
