WEBDESK: In light of escalating regional tensions and the evolving internal and external security landscape, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a crucial meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) today at 2 PM at the Prime Minister’s House.
The meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will be attended by highest civil and military leadership as it was reported in official sources.
Field Marshal Asim Munir, the chief of the army staff who just came back after a top-level US trip will also brief the participants about the results of his visit.
The NSC is set to deliberate extensively on the intensifying conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Key decisions regarding Pakistan’s diplomatic stance are anticipated during the meeting.
Security officials say the NSC meeting will also assess Pakistan’s internal security environment and border stability amid growing concerns about spillover effects from the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East.
Senior cabinet members, including the Deputy Prime Minister, Defence Minister, Interior Minister, and Finance Minister, are expected to attend the high-level meeting.
The backdrop to this development includes recent US strikes on Iran’s underground nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, using bunker-buster bombs and precision-guided missiles.
The attacks signify a massive upscaling as they practically involve drawing the United States in a conflict that was initially initiated by the Israeli military against Iran unprovoked.
The modern meeting is seen by observers as crucial in formulating the policy of Pakistan in a moment of growing global polarization and regional instability.
