PM Shehbaz invites UK to join investigations in Pahalgam incident

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday met with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and extended Pakistan’s invitation to the United Kingdom to join the investigation into the Pahalgam incident.

On April 22, militants carried out a deadly attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), leading to 26 deaths. India blamed Pakistan without providing any evidence and failing to apprehend the militants.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated dangerously because of warmongering and extremist government in India.

Pakistan offered to carry out an international and transparent investigation into the Pahalgam incident. On Monday, PM Shehbaz reiterated his offer for a high-level, transparent, impartial, and international investigation into the incident.

PM Shehbaz, during his meeting with Marriott, stressed that the UK should use its diplomatic relations with Pakistan and India to play its role in improving the tense situation in the region.

The Prime Minister briefed the British High Commissioner on the situation following the Pahalgam incident, explaining Pakistan’s perspective and rejecting any link between the Pahalgam incident and Pakistan without providing any evidence.

The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, affirmed that Britain will work with Pakistan and India to maintain regional peace and stability.

On April 23, Modi-led government officially responded to the Kashmir attack by putting all the blame on Pakistan and announcing five actions against Pakistan.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia and chaired a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).

The CCS undertook a long meeting and following decisions have been made against Pakistan:

Reduction in overall strength of the High Commissions from the present 55 to 30 people, effective from 1 May, 2025.

  • Suspension of Indus Waters Treaty, 1960
  • Immediate closure of Integrated Check Post Attari and Wagah border.
  • Pakistani nationals banned for travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas. All Pakistanis in India under SVES visa given 48 hours to leave India.
  • The Defence/Military, Naval and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared Persona Non Grata.
