Preparations complete, oath-taking on reserved seats to be held at 6pm today

The oath-taking ceremony for reserved seats in KP will be held today at 6pm at the Governor House.

The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has summoned the session.

The Peshawar High Court has issued a notification today, July 20, 2025, announcing the nomination of Mr. Faisal Karim Kundi, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to administer the oath to members-elect of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly against reserved seats for women and non-Muslims.

This nomination comes “pursuant to the request of the Election Commission of Pakistan, D.D.No. F.6(7)/2024-Coord-Vol-11 dated: 16 July 2025 and its subsequent request vide letter bearing F.6(7)/2024-Coord-Vol-11 dated: 20 July 2025. The decision was made by the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court, exercising powers conferred by Article 255(2) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Governor Kundi is tasked with administering the oath “at the earliest in accordance with the prescribed form of oath provided under the Constitution and relevant laws”.

The notification further states that the Governor “shall ensure that the oath is administered in the manner prescribed and a proper record be maintained in accordance with the official procedure”.

The Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly has been directed to “facilitate the newly notified members to sign the Roll of the Members in terms of Rule 6 of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Procedure and Conduct of Business Rules, 1988, along with all other enabling provisions of the Constitution”.

The notification, bearing No. 453-J, was issued “By order of the Hon’ble Chief Justice” and signed by Mohammad Zeb Khan, Registrar.

The notification has been copied to various officials such as the Speaker of Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Secretary of Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Principal Secretary to the Governor, the Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and others.
