In an interesting development, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday issued a nationwide alert for a heatwave and expected rainfall in many cities from April 16 to April 20.
Director General (DG) PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has stated, “Dusty winds, thundershowers and rains are likely in most districts of Punjab from April 16 to April 20.”
According to DG PDMA, “Rain with strong winds is predicted in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Gujranwala.”
Apart from these cities, it is also expected that Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha and Mianwali might also witness rainfall in the coming days from April 16 to April 20.
Furthermore, the spokesperson of the disaster management authority also revealed that the temperatures across the province will rise with the weather getting hotter by the end of April.
As per the protocol, the Chief Minister (CM) Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has instructed the issuance of an alert to all district administrations.
“The public will also have to be careful due to the increase in the intensity of heat,” stated the DG PDMA.
Alert issued to departments over expected rainfall
Meanwhile, an alert has also been issued to the School Education, Health Department, Irrigation, Construction and Communication, Local Government and Livestock.
As rainfall in different cities is expected from April 16 to April 20, the PDMA has also alerted the Information Department, WASA, Punjab Police and Civil Defence in view of the weather conditions.
The spokesperson DGMA also stated, “Citizens should stay in safe places to protect themselves from lightning. The public should never go out under the open sky during thunderstorms and storms.”

Summer holidays 2025 in Punjab may begin earlier than usual as Th Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has written a letter to the Education Department, recommending changes in school timings and the possibility of starting summer vacations earlier due to the risk of a heatwave.
According to the PDMA, the letter has been sent to both the School Education Department and the Higher Education Department. The letter advises that school hours be revised and that an announcement be made regarding early summer holidays in case of extreme temperatures. The PDMA has also sent letters to commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab, outlining precautionary measures in view of the heatwave warning.
