Webdesk: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially barred Pakistani players from participating in any future editions of the World Championship of Legends (WCL), following what it called a display of “double standards and discriminatory conduct” by the tournament organisers.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the PCB’s Board of Governors, chaired by Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
The board expressed deep disappointment and strong condemnation over what it described as WCL’s biased and unilateral decisions during the recent tournament.
According to the PCB, the WCL awarded points to a team that deliberately did not play its scheduled matches, a move the Board termed as a violation of the spirit of the game.
The press release issued by the WCL regarding the cancellation of Pakistan Legends’ matches was also criticised for reflecting “clear double standards.”
The PCB further stated that by aligning the sport with political motives and limited commercial interests, the WCL organisers had undermined the broader spirit and objectives of the championship.
The Board of Governors stressed that the PCB has always upheld the principle of keeping sports separate from politics.
It called the violation of fundamental tournament principles under any form of pressure “regrettable” and warned that such biased conduct sets a dangerous precedent for the future.
PCB officials also noted that WCL’s subsequent apology was effectively an indirect admission that the cancellation of matches was not based on sporting merit, but rather due to pressure from a specific nationalist narrative.
The Board concluded that such discriminatory and inconsistent behaviour has no place in international sports.
As a result, the PCB has resolved that it will no longer allow its players to participate in any tournament that is tainted by narrow political agendas and lacks sporting integrity.
