Pakistan’s role in global and regional peace received praise from United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio in his first meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday.

Both sides discussed ties, trade, investment and security, with Rubio acknowledging Pakistan’s “everlasting sacrifices in the war on terror.”

The meeting took place in Washington, DC, where FM Dar arrived on the second leg of his eight day US visit after attending high level UNSC events in New York.

The talks covered counterterrorism, regional stability and steps to expand economic links, including technology, agriculture and minerals.

The US State Department said Rubio appreciated Pakistan’s willingness to mediate conversations with Iran and its commitment to preserving regional stability.

The two sides also discussed deeper cooperation against ISIS‑K and confirmed the US‑Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad this August.

Washington underlined the importance of growing two way trade and exploring collaboration in critical minerals and mining.

FM Dar called for broader and stable ties. He paid tribute to the efforts of US leadership on global peace and noted constructive roles during recent Pakistan‑India tensions.

He said Pakistan seeks steady progress in the ongoing trade dialogue and highlighted opportunities for American investors.

He added that the Pakistani community in the US is acting as a bridge between the two countries.

The FO said both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to work together across multiple fields.

Islamabad views the positive tone from the meeting as a chance to turn dialogue into concrete projects that support jobs, technology transfer and security cooperation.

FM Dar is also due to speak at the Atlantic Council, where he presented Pakistan’s perspective on regional and global issues and lay out the future direction of Pakistan‑US relations.

The visit aims to convert diplomatic goodwill into practical gains for the economy and for long term stability.
