Pakistan weather update: widespread rain, thunderstorms forecast across Northern Pakistan

Webdesk: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, wind, and thunderstorms across several regions, including Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeast Balochistan. At times, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected, especially in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region, northeast Punjab, and Kashmir, according to the latest Pakistan weather update.

Meanwhile, the southern areas of the country will continue to experience hot and humid weather.

The current weather pattern is being influenced by a seasonal low over northern Balochistan. Moist air from the Arabian Sea is entering the upper parts of the country, while a westerly wave is also present over northern regions.

According to the latest alert from the PMD, heavy rains tonight and on July 23 may lead to flash floods in local streams and nullahs in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, as well as in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast Punjab, and Kashmir.

Urban flooding is possible in low-lying parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Okara, Nowshera, and Peshawar. The PMD has also warned of possible landslides and mudslides in hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, which could lead to road closures.

There is also a risk of damage to vulnerable structures such as walls or roofs of mud houses, electricity poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels due to heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning during this period.
