Nationwide alert issued

The Met Office has asked local authorities to stay ready for any emergency and make sure rescue teams are available. People have been advised to stay updated through official weather sources, avoid going out in heavy rain, and take steps to protect themselves and their homes.

The NDMA has said that higher temperatures and expected rainfall increase the chances of GLOFs in the northern areas. Residents in Hunza, Shigar, Ghanche and Chitral have been warned to be very careful. Disaster management teams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan have been told to closely watch areas at risk.

Heavy rain and strong winds are likely in Islamabad and several cities in Punjab, including Mianwali, Khushab, Faisalabad, Okara, Sahiwal, Multan and Bahawalnagar. These areas may face urban flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

In Balochistan, heavy rain with gusty winds is expected in places like Zhob, Killa Saifullah, Loralai, Barkhan, Ziarat, Dera Bugti, Sibi, Chaman, Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Surab, Khuzdar, Awaran and Panjgur. The NDMA has warned about flooding, landslides, power outages, and road blockages due to the bad weather.

The public is strongly advised to stay away from weak buildings, electric poles, and billboards during storms. Sudden water flows in streams may also be dangerous. Emergency teams have been told to keep machinery ready in high-risk areas.

Tourists are especially warned not to visit glacial areas for sightseeing or trekking due to the risk of GLOFs.

The NDMA has asked departments to clear blocked roads quickly and take early steps to reduce risks. People are encouraged to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile app to get live weather alerts and safety tips.
