Webdesk: Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected today in various parts of the country, including Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and upper and central Punjab. Some areas in northeast Balochistan may also receive rain as per the Pakistan weather update.
According to the latest weather update, scattered heavy rain is likely in Kashmir, the Potohar region, northeast Punjab, and KP. Meanwhile, hot and humid weather is likely to persist in the southern regions of the country, according to the latest Pakistan weather update.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert, warning of the following:
- Heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in small rivers and streams across Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Tank, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir.
- Urban flooding is a risk in low-lying parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot and Peshawar due to heavy rainfall.
- There is also a possibility of landslides or mudslides in hilly areas of KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat, which could lead to road blockages.
- Strong winds, lightning, and heavy rain may damage weak structures such as mud houses, billboards, electric poles, and solar panels.
The current synoptic situation suggests that a seasonal low-pressure pressure lies over northeast Balochistan with a trough extending north-eastwards. Monsoon currents are actively entering upper Pakistan, while a fresh westerly wave is also present over the northern regions.
