Webdesk: Pakistan weather update: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that hot and humid weather is expected to persist across much of the country on Wednesday, though rain, wind, and thundershowers may occur in some northern and upper areas.

In the capital Islamabad, the weather is likely to remain humid and partly cloudy, with a 35 per cent chance of rain and thunderstorms in the city and its nearby areas.

Punjab will largely remain hot and humid. Nevertheless, local rain or even thunderstorms may occur in such cities as Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Jhelum, Gujrat, and Sahiwal.

The same trend can be expected in other areas of Balochistan, particularly Musakhel, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Zhob, Kalat and Mastung.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the skies will generally stay partly cloudy, but rain and thundershowers are expected in some places such as Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, and Kohat.

The heat and humidity will persist in Sindh where no major rainfall is expected to occur. Rain with wind or thunderstorms may occur in Kashmir, while Gilgit-Baltistan will stay dry and hot.

Authorities have advised people to drink plenty of water, avoid staying out in the sun for too long, and take care during rain to prevent issues like waterlogging and urban flooding in areas at risk.

Pakistan weather update: Staying safe

When working in hot and humid weather, it is necessary to drink sufficient amounts of clean water during the day to maintain a hydrated state.

Do not go out into direct sunlight at high temperatures, wear clothes that breathe and apply sunscreen.

Older adults, children, and those who work outside need to take precautions to avoid heat exhaustion or dehydration.

When the weather forecasts an evaluation of rain or a thunderstorm, do not go out and travel, as much as you can stay at home.

Make sure that there are clear drains around your premises to lessen the chances of waterlogging.

In case of lightning, do not stand under trees or near power lines. Always have an emergency kit with you and keep track of local news and warnings during weather changes to remain safe.
