Some areas, particularly Kashmir, eastern Punjab, the Pothohar region and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, are likely to receive heavy rainfall at scattered places, according to the Pakistan weather update.

Meanwhile, hot and very humid conditions are expected to persist in the southern parts of the country.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for tonight and 31st July. According to the advisory:

  • Flash floods may occur in local streams and nullahs of Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Tank, D.G. Khan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir due to heavy rains.
  • Urban flooding is a potential risk in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, and Peshawar.
  • Landslides or mudslides may disrupt traffic and cause road closures in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree and Galliyat.
  • Windstorms, heavy downpours, and lightning could damage weak infrastructure, such as rooftops or walls of kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

The PMD’s synoptic analysis shows that a seasonal low is present over northeast Balochistan, while strong monsoon currents are flowing into the upper parts of the country.
