WEBDESK: Pakistan has strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes on Iran, calling them unjustified and illegal during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting. Representing Pakistan, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad on Saturday demanded urgent action from the international body to halt further aggression and maintain peace in the region.

Speaking at the emergency session, the UN council heard Ambassador Ahmad describe the strikes as a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a breach of international law. He warned that these actions could lead the Middle East into a wider and more dangerous conflict. According to Pakistan, Israel’s behavior reflects a broader pattern of aggression across Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon.

“These strikes are not only unlawful but dangerously destabilizing,” Ahmad said. “Pakistan calls on the UN council to step in and prevent another humanitarian crisis before it’s too late.”

The airstrikes reportedly targeted several Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, Natanz, and Shiraz, killing senior military officials and nuclear scientists. In retaliation, Iran launched missiles and drones toward Israeli cities like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Although most were intercepted, the region remains on edge.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo supported Pakistan’s concerns, warning the UN council that these attacks could derail planned peace talks between Iran and the United States. The UN council was also informed that the Israeli strikes came just before scheduled negotiations, raising further alarm.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expressed grave concern over the safety of Iranian nuclear sites. The UN council was urged to take immediate steps to ensure the protection of those facilities and prevent any nuclear-related emergencies.

Pakistan reiterated Iran’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and emphasized that military actions would only escalate the crisis. In its closing remarks to the UN council, Pakistan stressed the need for diplomacy, de-escalation, and respect for international law.

As tensions rise, both Pakistan and the UN council are facing increasing pressure to act before the conflict spirals out of control.
