Pakistan, Russia sign historic agreement to revive Pakistan Steel Mills

WEBDESK: Pakistan and Russia have signed a landmark agreement for the revival of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), marking a major step forward in industrial cooperation between the two friendly countries.

The agreement was finalised during a visit to Moscow, led by Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar. Officials from Pakistan’s Ministry of Industries and Production, along with senior Russian authorities, signed the protocol to restore and modernise Pakistan Steel Mills.

Under this agreement, Russia will assist Pakistan in upgrading Pakistan Steel Mills with modern technology and improved operational standards. The development is expected to boost industrial production, create fresh employment opportunities across the country, and strengthen Pakistan’s economic foundation.

Haroon Akhtar called the deal a significant milestone for Pakistan’s industrial progress. He stated, “This agreement reflects the Prime Minister’s vision of providing the country with a strong industrial base. Russia’s partnership will open a new chapter in our economic journey.”

According to officials, the cooperation will include technical upgrades, enhanced production capacity, and workforce training, helping Pakistan Steel Mills regain its competitive edge in the regional market.

The revival of Pakistan Steel Mills is being described as a crucial step towards reactivating the country’s manufacturing sector and reducing reliance on imported steel. It will also play a key role in supporting Pakistan’s national infrastructure projects and overall economic growth.

Earlier for the first time that President Lukashenko was going to Pakistan when he made a three day official visit there; talking in a joint press conference alongside the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he said that both countries also share strong relations and increased cooperation will develop between Pakistan and Belarus to strengthen the bond further.

He said that Belarus is willing to share its progressive technology with Pakistan, and he emphasised the importance to broaden the cooperation in the fields like technology, agriculture as well as defence production. Another issue that he emphasised on was on quick execution of agreements and memorandums of understanding in order to swiftly proceed with projects whose aim is to benefit the people.

Showing concern of the damage caused due to the latest flooding in Pakistan, the Belarusian president confirmed once again that Belarus regards Pakistan as its close ally. He also remembered the time he met with the former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif a decade ago with whom they discussed a brighter future of the two countries. President Lukashenko gave a positive and future-oriented perspective in relation to the present relations between the two countries by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
