Pakistan has been ranked among the worst countries in the world in the World Economic Forum (WEF) report on gender equality. Pakistan is ranked 145th out of 146 countries, with only the African nation Sudan placed below it.

The report states that there is a significant gender gap in employment and wage distribution in Pakistan.

As per the World Economic Forum’s report, women in Pakistan earn 18% less than men, only 36 per cent of women participate in economic activities, and merely 23 per cent are part of the workforce.

In comparison, neighboring Bangladesh is ranked 99th, while India stands at 129th on the list.

In the Global Gender Gap Report 2023 by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Pakistan was ranked 142nd out of 146 countries, with a gender equality score of 57.5%, the highest since 2006.

This annual report evaluates the state of gender disparity and progress across four key areas: economic participation and opportunities, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment.

Pakistan was placed at the bottom of both regional and global rankings, with only Iran, Algeria, Chad, and Afghanistan ranking lower. In 2022, Pakistan stood at 145th out of 146 countries.

However, over the past decade, Pakistan has improved by 5.1 percentage points in the economic participation and opportunity sub-index, reaching 36.2% parity, although this remains the lowest level globally.
