Pakistan Railways has generated a record revenue of Rs83 billion over the past 11 months, according to a statement issued by its headquarters in Lahore.

The department earned Rs42 billion from passenger trains and Rs29 billion from freight services, while an additional Rs12 billion came from other sources.

Officials say that with just one month left in the financial year, the chances of surpassing the all-time high of Rs88 billion in annual revenue have become stronger.

According to the statement, the Karachi Division contributed Rs13 billion from passenger trains and Rs25 billion from freight operations. The Lahore Division earned Rs10 billion from passenger trains and nearly Rs1 billion from freight.

Similarly, the Rawalpindi and Multan divisions each collected Rs4 billion from the passenger sector, bringing their combined revenue to Rs8 billion.

Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi said that the revenue earned during these 11 months is unprecedented in the department’s history. He noted that Pakistan Railways had collected Rs77 billion during the same period last year.

Hanif Abbasi added that with hard work and dedication, efforts are being made to put the Railways back on its feet.
