WEBDESK: Pakistan’s nomination of Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize shows just how far Pakistan has gone to try and find a diplomatic way out of the disaster the world and this region are walking blindly into.
It is a disaster fuelled by misjudgements, bruised egos, and short-sighted goals.
The move may have raised eyebrows, but it was meant to bring reason back into the conversation before it’s too late.
Even at the cost of some criticism at home, Pakistan will be remembered as the one rational actor amid this chaos.
It used every tool available to a skilled negotiator, plain facts (they are not happy with where this is going), reason (they know the players better), and even a degree of appeasement, to try and make the warning sides listen.
These are sides that sadly seem to think only in hours or days, not in terms of long-term consequences.
What must be understood is this: self-defence and survival are the strongest human instincts.
And Pakistan has made it loud and clear, both through words and actions, that the aggressive, arrogant worldviews of certain powers are not sustainable.
Not now, not ever! This message has been sent directly and also through firm demonstrations, including what we saw in Mark e Haq.
