Webdesk: Pakistan’s participation in the Junior Hockey World Cup is now also under question following the denial of permission for the Asia Cup.
According to sources, the Pakistan junior hockey team is unlikely to be granted permission to travel to India. The Junior Hockey World Cup is scheduled to take place in India between November and December this year.
Sources confirm that the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has already been informed about the refusal to allow the team to participate in the Asia Cup. PHF has also been notified regarding the Junior World Cup.
The PHF is expected to make an official announcement soon. It has reportedly been clearly conveyed that no Pakistani team will travel to India this year.
It is worth mentioning that the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has already announced the schedule for the Junior Hockey World Cup, set to be held from November 28 to December 10.
Both Pakistan and India are placed in Group B of the tournament.
Earlier, Pakistan had decided not to send its national hockey team to the Asia Cup in India following threats from extremist elements in the host country.
Meanwhile, former Pakistani hockey Olympians have demanded that the Asia Cup be relocated to a neutral venue. They stated that a neutral venue should be the first priority for the tournament.
They urged the PHF to adopt a firm stance, similar to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and demand a neutral venue for their matches in the Asia Cup. If a neutral venue is not accepted, the event should be moved out of India altogether.
