Pakistan’s information technology (IT) sector is expected to achieve $4 billion in exports in the financial year 2025, according to Muhammad Umair Nizam, Senior Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA).

Speaking at a recent event in Karachi, Nizam said the country recorded $3.2 billion in IT exports during FY24 and projected a 25 per cent year-on-year growth for the next fiscal year.

P@SHA hosted an interactive session for top executives of leading IT companies to review trends, identify challenges, and discuss opportunities in the sector. The gathering also focused on infrastructure development, government relations, and attracting international investments.

Senior figures including P@SHA Vice Chairman Raheel Iqbal, Treasurer Haris Naseer, and Central Executive Committee members Munaf Majeed, Usman Akbar, and Hassan Bin Rizwan attended the session.

Participants expressed satisfaction with the support provided by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom (MoITT), the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), and the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB).

However, concerns were raised over delays by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in introducing regulatory reforms. Industry leaders urged these institutions to accelerate policymaking and streamline regulations to keep pace with the sector’s rapid growth.

Nizam noted that Pakistan’s IT industry is diversifying into new sub-sectors and technology fields, but outdated regulations are creating barriers. He stressed the need for a more enabling environment to support this expansion.
