WEBDESK: Pakistan-India tensions flared up once again after the Pakistan Army shot down an Indian quadcopter that violated Pakistan’s airspace along the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday, April 29 in the Manawar sector of Bhimbir district.

According to sources, the drone was being used for surveillance activities when it crossed into Pakistan’s border. The Pakistan army responded swiftly and took down the drone.

“The timely action by Pakistan Army thwarted the enemy’s nefarious attempt to spy across the border,” the sources said, adding that the incident once again demonstrated the Army’s “professionalism, readiness, and defensive preparedness.”

There has been no official statement from the Indian side so far regarding the downed quadcopter. However, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. In the past, on February 26th Pakistan faced a similar incident where an Indian quadcopter was shot down along the Line of Control.

At the time, an Indian officer said, “The drone was on a training mission well within Indian territory when its control was lost due to technical malfunction at 9.25 am. The drone then drifted into the Nikial sector of Pakistan-occupied J&K opposite our Bhimber Gali sector.”

Pakistan-India tensions remain high due to unresolved territorial disputes and the recent Pahalgam incident, especially in the Kashmir region.

The April 22 attack in Pahalgam saw 26 people, mostly tourists, killed in what is being described as the deadliest armed attack in the disputed Himalayan region since the year 2000. Responsibility for the attack was allegedly claimed by the unknown group, The Resistance Front (TRF).

In the wake of the Pahalgam attack, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and downgraded diplomatic ties, actions that have further escalated Pakistan-India tensions. Pakistan responded by putting the Simla Agreement in abeyance and closing its airspace to Indian flights.
