WEBDESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an urgent alert as a powerful heat wave spreads across many parts of the country. Southern districts, especially in Sindh, are experiencing a sharp rise in temperatures, with forecasts predicting highs of 46 to 48 degrees Celsius.
Cities like Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Larkana, and Dadu are already seeing extreme weather conditions. According to the PMD, a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere is causing this intense heat wave, which is expected to last until at least April 18.
The heat wave is not limited to Sindh. Southern Punjab and parts of Balochistan are also at risk. Daytime temperatures in these areas may stay 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal. Even central and northern regions could see temperatures 4 to 6 degrees higher than usual.
The PMD has warned that the heat wave could trigger dust storms and windstorms in some areas. People, especially children, women, and the elderly, are advised to avoid going out in the sun during peak hours and to stay well-hydrated.
Experts believe that climate change is the main reason behind the early and extreme summer weather. With over a billion people living in South Asia, these heat-related risks are becoming more dangerous each year.
Local authorities and health departments are urging citizens to take all necessary precautions. Schools may adjust timings, and emergency services are on alert in high-risk zones.
