Pakistan exports rise to $31.75 billion despite global headwinds

exports rise

Pakistan exports rise by nearly $1 billion year-on-year, touching $31.75 billion in FY 2024-25, the Commerce Ministry said.

The remarks came at Trade Review Committee meeting chaired by Minister Jam Kamal Khan on Friday.

The gain comes even as world trade slowed under tariff disputes, soft demand, and geopolitical unrest.

By contrast, Pakistan shipped $30.76 billion in FY 2023-24.

Textiles led the climb. Knitted garments grew 15 percent, woven garments 16 percent, and home textiles 9 percent.

Nontraditional lines also impressed: tobacco and cigarettes up 135 percent, plastics 17 percent, cement 25 percent.

With steady gains in pharmaceuticals and ICT services.

On the import side, capital goods purchases rose 24 percent, hinting at fresh industrial activity.

Pakistan exports staying on course: new tools and markets

To keep momentum, Minister Khan ordered country specific export plans for emerging destinations.

A trade alert system to flag sudden barriers such as SPS/TBT rules or anti dumping probes.

Sectoral Export Councils will be revived so private firms can feed data straight into policy.

The ministry also plans to deploy AI-driven dashboards for market intelligence and draft a services export roadmap centred on ICT, freelancing, and the creative economy.

Minister called the numbers proof of “resilience and adaptability” and urged exporters to double down on innovation and diversification.

With global demand patchy, planners say the next gains must come from newer sectors and markets rather than price cuts alone.

The Pakistan exports rise headline, they add, is just a starting point.

Sustained growth will require quick responses to disruptions and sharper data on where and what the world wants to buy next.
