Pakistan desires peace, but it is not desperate: Bilawal Bhutto

Bilawal Bhutto

Pakistan’s delegation led by former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited the United States last week.

Bhutto gave an exclusive interview to the international magazine, Foreign Policy.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that Pakistan wants peace with India.

He said the Pakistan military showed restraint during the recent conflict. He added that Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire only if talks would follow on neutral ground.

Bilawal said peace is possible if both sides agree to talk. He said both political and military leaders in Pakistan are ready to discuss all issues. But he added that if India refuses to talk, then peace cannot move forward.

He said that both India and Pakistan are nuclear-armed. If there is no dialogue, no international law, and no mediation, it will lead to a dangerous future.

Bilawal also said young people in both countries will suffer the most if conflict continues. He urged both sides to work on bigger problems like climate change, water scarcity, and poverty.

He said he has no hate toward the Indian people. He believes it takes courage to make peace, not war.

When asked about India’s claim that attackers came from Pakistan, Bilawal said there is no proof. He asked why India had not shared names, places, or evidence with the media, public, or Pakistan.

He said India is using disinformation and hiding the truth. He accused the Indian government and media of spreading lies during the conflict.

“The Indian government does not have the credibility or the transparency, it was not available during this operation. They relied on disinformation during this war, the Indian media relied on disinformation during this conflict. And now, this delegation that’s come here is also relying on disinformation,” said Bilawal Bhutto.

Bilawal said if India had real evidence, they should have gone to the United Nations. He compared it to how the US acted after 9/11.

He said India’s actions have made the region less safe. He believes peace talks are the only way forward. He also called for international support to restart dialogue.

Regarding the downed Indian jets in recent conflict with India, Bilawal Bhutto stated, “We have the geolocations, we have the specific names of pilots, the call signs, the hospitals where the ones that are still alive are being treated in, the ones that unfortunately passed away. That information can be shared, and it should have been shared with the Indian public by the Indian government.”

He reiterated that Pakistan had provided  the names of the planes, the names of the pilots flying those planes, the positions within Indian occupied territory.
