WEBDESK: Pakistan has become the first foreign country to join China’s space training program, marking a major step forward in the country’s space ambitions. Under this program, two Pakistani astronauts will receive training at the Astronaut Center of China, preparing them for future space missions.
The space training program is a result of an agreement between Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and China. The selection process for the astronauts will be rigorous, considering academic qualifications, physical fitness, and expertise. Candidates may include PhD holders, experienced pilots, and professionals with backgrounds in space sciences and engineering. The final selection is expected to be completed by 2026.
Once selected, the astronauts will undergo specialised training to operate in a zero-gravity environment, manage complex spacecraft systems, and conduct scientific experiments. These experiments will focus on areas such as medical research, applied physics, micro-gravity studies, space radiation, and astronomy.
This space training program strengthens the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and China in scientific and technological fields. Pakistan’s SUPARCO Director Shafaat Ali expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chinese government for making this opportunity possible. He emphasised that this collaboration will enhance Pakistan’s space capabilities and open doors for future space exploration.
The inclusion of Pakistan in this space training program highlights the country’s growing commitment to advancing its space technology sector. It also paves the way for greater cooperation in space research and development between the two nations.
With this initiative, Pakistan is positioning itself as an emerging player in space exploration. The successful completion of the space training program will not only benefit scientific research but also inspire the next generation of space enthusiasts in the country.
