WEBDESK: Pak-US talks: Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent visit to the United States and his high-level luncheon meeting with President Donald Trump has triggered visible unease in New Delhi.

Indian media and official channels have launched a flurry of misleading narratives, attempting to downplay the significance of the visit and distort its context.

According to veteran journalist Hamid Mir, the meeting between President Trump and Field Marshal Asim Munir was linked to discussions surrounding the ceasefire during the May 2025 Pakistan-India conflict.

Hamid Mir states in his X post, “The meeting between President Trump and General Asim Munir was related to the issues that occurred during the ceasefire during the Indo-Pak war in May 2025. Trump thanked General Asim Munir for the ceasefire. The meeting was decided 5 weeks ago. The meeting had no direct connection to the Israel-Iran war.”

Trump has praised Field Marshal Asim Munir for Pakistan’s constructive role in achieving a ceasefire at the height of hostilities during the meeting.

The decision to hold the meeting, Mir revealed, was made five weeks in advance, dismissing speculations that it was a response to the Israel-Iran conflict.

While regional matters, including Iran, were briefly discussed, credible sources confirm there was no direct connection between the visit and the Middle East crisis.

Contrary to Indian claims, Washington did not exert any pressure on Pakistan during the talks.

India’s nervous response to Pak-US talks

India’s Ministry of External Affairs released a statement describing its actions during “Operation Sindoor” as “measured” and “non-provocative”, claims that stand in stark contrast to independent international assessments.

The failure of Operation Sindoor has already cast serious doubt over India’s military assertions, with several global observers confirming that Pakistan’s actions were per international law and the UN Charter.

India’s allegations of having inflicted damage on Pakistani forces have also been widely rejected.

International defence analysts acknowledged Pakistan Air Force’s superiority during the conflict, with verified reports confirming the downing of Indian fighter jets.

These developments embarrassed New Delhi on the global stage, particularly after Indian attempts to mask the scale of their losses.

A failed attempt to undermine Pak-US relations

According to the observers, India reacted to the successful visit of Field Marshal Asim Munir to the US out of its frustration with the rising diplomatic importance of Islamabad.

The efforts by New Delhi to make the visit part of its strategy to go with the development in the Middle East are being seen as an effort to escape the wrath of its own inability and diminishing credibility.

The Modi government’s repeated attempts to portray itself as a peace-loving state are being contradicted by its aggressive regional policies.

From Ladakh to Kashmir, India’s record of military adventurism has only reinforced its reputation as a destabilising force in South Asia.

Notwithstanding the warm welcome accorded Field Marshal Munir in Washington, it has made a strong message that Pakistan is a major player in the region and its leadership is being recognized in the international arena much to the disfavour of India.
