WEBDESK: Pakistan has successfully used diplomacy to counter India’s efforts at the United Nations Security Council, forcing the country to face embarrassment over its failure to get a condemnation statement against Pakistan.

The incident in Pahalgam, located in Indian-occupied Kashmir, led to the deaths of 28 people in a gun attack. India tried to push the Security Council into blaming Pakistan, but Pakistan’s diplomats made sure that no such statement was issued.

The UN Security Council did condemn the Pahalgam incident but refrained from using strong language, and instead of naming India, it used the phrase “relevant authorities.” This is seen as a diplomatic setback for India, which had hoped for a statement similar to the one issued after the Pulwama attack.

India also attempted to get the condemnation to mention “Pahalgam” specifically, but Pakistan succeeded in getting “Jammu and Kashmir” included in the statement.

This victory for Pakistan highlights the ongoing Pak-India tensions, where every diplomatic move and statement holds significant weight. India’s failure to secure a harsh condemnation reflects the current state of relations between the two countries, with both sides trying to control the narrative on the international stage.

Despite the setback, India continues to focus on escalating the situation, as tensions remain high.

Earlier, India retaliated to the Pahalgam incident by suspending the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty and closing down several diplomatic channels with Pakistan. Indian officials also ordered Pakistani diplomats to leave the country and gave Pakistani visa holders only 48 hours to exit further escalating Pak-India tensions.

In response, Pakistan firmly denied any involvement in the Pahalgam attack and announced its own set of retaliatory measures. These included suspending visas for Indian citizens, expelling Indian diplomats, and closing Pakistan airspace to India.

The UN Security Council’s statement urged both nations to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation. Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts ensured that the message remained balanced and avoided further fueling the already tense Pak-India tensions.

The event underscores the role of international diplomacy in handling sensitive issues between Pakistan and India, especially as both countries continue to deal with a volatile situation in Kashmir. The Security Council’s call for calm signals a critical moment in the ongoing Pak-India tensions, with global powers urging both sides to avoid further conflicts.
