rime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that instead of passing on the benefit of declining global oil prices directly to the public, the government would invest the amount in major development projects in Balochistan.

Speaking during a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, the premier announced that funds saved from reduced oil prices would be used to build the Kachhi Canal and the Quetta-Karachi M-25 Motorway. “We have already slashed electricity prices by Rs7.50 per unit, which will provide relief to the economy,” he said, adding that lowering power tariffs was a major challenge.

The prime minister said the federal government would also construct the M-6 and M-9 motorways, with the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway set to be built on modern lines.

Referring to the recent tragic incident in Iran, PM Shehbaz strongly condemned the killing of eight Pakistanis, saying that no words were enough to denounce the attack. He noted that the Iranian government has assured Pakistan of arresting and punishing the perpetrators.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz also prayed for the improved health of President Asif Ali Zardari.
