Noor Zaman wins U23 World Squash championship for Pakistan

WEBDESK: Pakistan’s rising squash star Noor Zaman has made the nation proud by winning the U23 World Squash Championship. The final was held at the DHA Creek Club in Karachi, where Noor Zaman defeated Egypt’s Karim El Turky in a thrilling five-set match. The final score was 3-2 in favor of Zaman, marking a major milestone in his young career.

Noor Zaman, crediting the victory down to his hard work and divine favour, brought home the gold medal after a closely contested match. This victory has brought joy to squash fans across the country and is being seen as a hopeful sign for the revival of squash in Pakistan.

Noor Zaman received a gold medal, a trophy, and a cash prize of $5,250 for his outstanding performance.

Pakistan’s top leaders praised Noor Zaman for his achievement. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated him for bringing international recognition to Pakistan through his talent and hard work. “The entire nation is proud. God willing, Pakistan will reclaim its lost glory in squash,” he stated.

President Asif Ali Zardari also extended his best wishes and applauded Zaman’s consistent performance throughout the tournament.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah attended the event and called it a proud moment for Pakistan. He stressed the importance of supporting young athletes and promised that the government would continue investing in sports, especially squash.

“Hosting the inaugural U23 World Squash Championship is an honour for Pakistan,” Shah said.

Shah also acknowledged the efforts of the Pakistan Squash Federation, Sindh government, DHA, and the Pakistan Air Force in promoting squash.

In the women’s final, Egypt’s Fairooz Aboulkheir beat Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk 3-0 to claim the title. She also won the same prize money as Noor Zaman, while the runners-up received $3,450 each along with silver medals.
