“A woman, identified as Ritika Dhere, was travelling to Parbhani from Pune along with Altaf Shaikh, who claimed to be her husband, in the sleeper coach bus of Sant Prayag Travels. During their journey, the woman, who was pregnant, started experiencing labour pains and gave birth to a baby boy. However, the couple put the baby in a piece of cloth and threw him out of the vehicle,” a police official quoted in the PTI report said, according to Indian media reports.

Police say the couple wrapped the baby in cloth and threw him out of the bus window. When the bus driver noticed something had been tossed out, he asked Altaf, who claimed Ritika had vomited due to motion sickness.

Police quickly responded and stopped the bus. Ritika and Altaf were taken into custody. During questioning, they told police they could not afford to raise the child, so they abandoned him.

Sadly, the baby died from injuries after being hit by a car. Authorities are now investigating the case further.

India, while positioning itself as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, continues to struggle in meeting the basic needs of many of its citizens. This further highlights the divide between “Two Indias”, where the elite enjoy luxuries like ‘Tesla’ but the poor have to kill and abandon their children in the most cruel ways.

Not just that, it also highlights the deteriorating civic sense, further highlighted by another incident that too place in the US, where an Indian woman stole stuff from Walmart.
