New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Mark Luxon announced that the government would relax the process for its golden visa to attract new residents from April 1, 2025 onward.

According to reports, the English language requirement is now being removed which previously was the part of the visa process.

The new visa process introduces two new portfolio types with different minimum stay requirements in the country, ranging from 21 days to 105.

For golden visa, the balanced category focused on mixed investment, allowed for a minimum spend of NZD10 million (PKR1,624,954,000) over five years and required 105 days spent in New Zealand with the potential to get reductions if investments exceeded NZD10 million.

New Zealand First party leader Winston Peters is not opposing the move following his demolition of National’s foreign buyers tax plan it took to the election.

Digital Nomad Visa for New Zealand

Earlier, New Zealand launched its new long-term digital nomad visa, which, unlike most global digital nomad visas, does not have a minimum monthly income requirement.

To apply for this Digital Nomad Visa, you would ask for a 90-day stay and then extend it for up to nine months.

A digital nomad visa allows someone visiting a country to work there for a set period provided, in most cases, they earn an income from clients outside of the country—the key aim is to bring in people who will spend money in the economy but not take jobs from locals. Sometimes, countries give digital nomad visas to industry professionals they are looking to attract—notably technology professionals—and applicants must have proof of rent and health insurance.
