WEBDESK: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has advised the public to stay alert, as isolated spells of rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected in Islamabad and several areas of Punjab between June 25 and July 1.
This advisory came a day after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted the start of the monsoon season from Wednesday, bringing showers to many parts of the country.
An impact-based forecast shared by the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) outlines possible weather disruptions across different regions of Pakistan throughout the coming week.
The report warns of likely thunderstorms, windstorms, and flash floods that could pose risks to people’s safety, infrastructure, and transport networks.
According to the NDMA, these weather events may result in fallen trees, power cuts, and damage to weak buildings, rooftops, electric poles, and vehicles.
People are strongly advised to stay away from trees, signboards, and poorly built structures during strong winds. Parking in safe, secure areas is also recommended.
The NEOC also pointed out the danger of flash flooding in upper parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Kashmir, the Potohar region, and Islamabad, due to scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rainfall.
There is also a chance of very heavy rain in some spots, which could increase the risk of flooding.
The NDMA warned that homes, roads, and infrastructure in low-lying and flood-prone areas may be affected.
People living in such regions are urged to be extra cautious, avoid travelling unless necessary, and take steps to protect their belongings and animals.
Isolated rain and thunder showers are likely in many districts in KP, and with strong winds there may be disruption in power supply, damaging and weakening of structures as well as impaired visibility on the roads.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), isolated heavy showers and storms are predicted from June 25th to July 1st, with breaks in between.
Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) is also expected to receive scattered rain and thunderstorms from June 26th to 29th.
The NDMA has asked the public, travellers, and concerned authorities to take necessary precautions and stay alert.
Emergency teams have been told to stay prepared for any potential rescue or evacuation needs.
People are encouraged to keep up with official weather updates and to download the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile app for timely alerts.
