WEBDESK: Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash that took place on Thursday evening in India.
Khawaja Asif took to social media, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad today. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of all aboard.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also shared his sympathies. He said, “My heartfelt condolences to the families of the precious lives lost in the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. The Ahmedabad plane crash occurred at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport when Air India’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft was preparing to take off for London. The flight, carrying 242 passengers and crew members, faced a serious incident on the tarmac.
Emergency teams responded quickly to the Ahmedabad plane crash, with over five fire fighting vehicles dispatched to the scene. Thankfully, no fire or explosion followed, but initial reports confirm there were no survivors. Among those on board were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals.
Airport authorities suspended all operations after the Ahmedabad plane crash as rescue efforts and investigations began. The full extent of the damage is still being examined.
